Arabic FoundationsA foundational exploration into classical Arabic, the eloquent language in which the Qur’an was revealed. You will be on your way to understanding this rich linguistic tradition. 

Contemporary ContentionsA deep dive into the intersection of modern values and Islamic beliefs. We will discuss daily dilemmas faced by Muslims in Western societies, dissect them, and offer an Islamic theological viewpoint to strengthen your core principles and navigate life’s challenges with faith.

Fiqh of Taharah & Salah | A basic introduction to jurisprudence pertaining to purification and ritual prayer. You will be able to apply these essential practices with confidence and devotion in your daily worship.

Hadīth PracticumA detailed analysis of selections of narrations in context of modern times. You will gain practical insights and learn how to apply the timeless wisdom of these narrations to your everyday life.

Get to Know Your Instructors!

Shaykh Omar Hussaini, born in 1978 in Park Ridge, IL, completed the memorization of the Qur’an at Ma’had Ta’lim ul-Islam in 1996. After graduating from the College Preparatory School of America in 1998, he joined the University of Illinois at Chicago’s GPPA Program in medicine. He pursued studies in Arabic language and classical Islamic sciences concurrently with his high school and college education. In 2006, Shaykh Omar received degrees in Shari’ah studies and Medicine, having completed his final year of the Shari’ah course at Darul Uloom Zakariyya in South Africa under luminaries such as Mufti Radha ul-Haq. He completed medical residency and fellowships at Washington University in St. Louis from 2007 to 2013 and obtained formal authorization in the Islamic science of spiritual purification. Currently, he serves as a staff physician at the Moffitt Cancer Center and is an Assistant Professor of Oncological Sciences at the University of South Florida.  

Shaykh Derrick Peat, originally from Kingston, Jamaica, moved to Miami at a young age and completed his primary education there. He obtained a Bachelor’s of Science in Journalism from the University of Florida in 2009, during which he worked as a freelance journalist and editor. He actively participated in Islam on Campus activities and served as the president during his final year. He pursued intensive Arabic language studies at the Sibawayh Arabic Language Center in Cairo, Egypt, and later at Azhar University for an additional year. In 2017, he graduated from the World Islamic Sciences Education University (WISE) in Amman, Jordan, with a Bachelor’s of Arts in Arabic Language and Islamic Studies. Shaykh Derrick has taught Islamic subjects, including Islamic jurisprudence, tajwīd, Qur’ānic exegesis, and hadīth, to high school students and worked as an Imām and religious director in various communities. He is set to serve as the Imām of the ICWC Masjid in Lutz, Florida, upon its completion.

Abdullah Mulla, born and raised in Tampa, graduated from Tampa Bay Technical High School in 2022.  His quest for knowledge led him to DarusSalam Seminary in Chicago, where he completed the rigorous Tanwir Intensive. There, he dove into a comprehensive curriculum that encompassed various fields of sacred knowledge, including Tazkiyah, Fiqh, Sirah, Aqidah, and Hadith. Back in Tampa, he is now pursuing a bachelor’s in psychology while continuing his studies in Nahw, Fiqh, and Quranic studies under local scholars.
ʿĀlimah Zeba Hussaini was raised in the Middle East (U.A.E.) and moved to the United States at a young age. She studied tajwīd in St. Louis and memorized several ajzā’ of the Quran while in Chicago. ʿĀlimah Zeba began her initial studies in Arabic and later traveled to Jamia Zainab in Lusaka, Zambia, to further pursue Sharīʿah studies where she studied the various Islamic sciences including fiqhusūl ul-fiqhhadīthtafsīr, and balāghah. She completed the 4-year ʿālimah course in 2015, graduating among the top students in her class. Over the past decade, ʿĀlimah Zeba has benefited and continues to benefit from the company of numerous scholars and mashāyikh and has delivered lectures and conducted classes for area youth across the U.S. and abroad. ʿĀlimah Zeba has taught advanced hadīth classes (Mishkāt ul-Masābih) at Jamia Zainab Lusaka and has been the primary teacher for the women’s wing of Makkiyyah since it’s inception, teaching classes ranging from fiqh to diseases of the heart.

ʿĀlimah Lubna Zaffer has lived in Louisiana, and now resides in Tampa, Florida. She is a proud mother of three. Having recently graduated from Zaynab Institute, she now teaches Purification of the Heart and Spiritual Parenting at the same instituteShe holds a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of New Orleans. ʿĀlimah Lubna is currently an Islamic Studies teacher at Bayaan Academy, teaching a variety of Islamic sciences to Muslim children.

ʿĀlimah Ambareen Khan grew up just outside of Philadelphia, and completed all of her schooling locally. She finished her residency in anesthesiology in 2010 at Drexel University College of Medicine, balancing the life of a doctor and mother. She began studying tajwīd in 2015 online. This passion soon carried on, as she began studying the Arabic language locally. In 2015, she began her ʿālimah  course under the tutelage of Shaykh Omar Hussaini and ʿĀlimah Zeba Hussaini. In 2017, she enrolled in Zaynab Institute. She is currently in her final year of ʿālimah course.
