Course Topics:

The Islamic Scholarly Tradition:

  • How did the great Islamic scholars of the past understand the Quran and Sunnah and apply it to the societies of their times? Can we learn their methodology and try to apply it to our context? What would that entail? Join us as we take a deeper look at principles of analyzing the Quran, Hadith, and works of Fiqh in ways that are true to Islam’s own epistemology, which is different from approaches in secularism, modernism, and reformism that have captured the imagination of many contemporary Muslim thinkers.

The Islamic Epistemological Tradition:

  • How do the classical disciplines of Islamic theology (kalam), spirituality (tasawwuf), and philosophy (hikmah) help us to understand our identity and role in this world and our relationship with Almighty Allah? Are all of the particular, and occasionally peculiar, concepts of these three traditions still applicable today? Join us as we navigate these three man-made disciplines and try to identify wider concepts rooted in the Quran, Sunnah, and the scholarly tradition, distinguished from concepts specific to paradigms of the past that may no longer remain as valid.

The Perfection of the Prophet ﷺ:

  • In this course, we will cover various aspects of the life and person of the Prophet Muhammad (S) and explore how he reflected human perfection in every dimension of his existence from his noble countenance to his leadership to his relation with Allah ﷻ.
